Data Retention

HeyTaco saves taco message content, giver/receiver information, and timestamps as part of providing the service — this is what powers your leaderboard, reports, and the Recognition dashboard. For details on how this data is handled, see our privacy policy.

Turning off data retention

If your company doesn't want HeyTaco to save the content of taco messages, admins can turn off data retention. [Need the exact path here — is this in Admin → Settings, or somewhere else?]

What changes when data retention is off

Once data retention is disabled, HeyTaco no longer stores the text of taco messages. This has one notable side effect: Taco Tags stop being tracked. Tags are hashtags included in the message itself (like #ownership or #teamwork), so if message content isn't saved, HeyTaco has nothing to scan for tags — the Tags page in the admin dashboard and the Recognition report's tag breakdown will no longer show new activity.

Other core functionality — giving tacos, balances, the leaderboard, redemptions — is unaffected. Only the message content and anything derived from it (like tags) is impacted.
